Running bootstrap and b2 with no command-line arguments as recommended in the Getting Started guide will build only 32-bit libraries. In order to build 64-bit libraries, one has to consult bjam docs to figure out which parameters/options to use. Since targeting both 32-bit, and 64-bit architectures is quite common for developers working under Windows, having a batch file to automate Boost library builds for both architectures in one go will save them some time and effort.
