Bug on Boost thread 1.49.0 using Debian Wheezy

Reported by: Franck Talamy <talamy.f@…> Owned by: viboes
Milestone: To Be Determined Component: thread
Version: Boost 1.49.0 Severity: Problem
Keywords: thread Debian Wheezy lock 1.49.0 Cc:

Description

Hello,

I posted this thread on Stack Overflow a month ago : http://stackoverflow.com/questions/18107163/application-boostthread-stuck-on-mutex-lock-when-compiled-for-arm-running-on-b

It looks like upgrading to boost 1.54 fixes the problem and this little program can launch up to 380 threads without freezing.

But it seems that Debian Wheezy chose Boost 1.49.0 as a stable library so I make this bug report even if it was already corrected in a newer release so that the version can be patched for the latest Debian.

Regards FT

Replying to viboes:

With which patch?

Hello viboes,

I'm not sure if it's me you're asking, but I didn't understand your question.

Regards, FT

You said "so that the version can be patched for the latest Debian". I meant where are the patches?

The bug appears in version 1.49, which has been chosen by Debian for stable => Wheezy.

So I'd like to know if Debian team or Boost team will correct this bug on the 1.49 version, and update the packages.

I don't know for Debian team, but Boost don't use to do this kind of things. Please contact Debian team.

Update the version for a package (well, lot of packages in this case) for a distro stable release could be a complex task. If these packages are common dependencies for other, it will be harder. For Debian, that has really strict policies for stable releases, it could be really too much expensive :(
